I went to the fabric store to get back to school fabric for the boys, but I just ended up getting stuff for myself.  Two more Alice dresses out of the AMH Loominous line...

Mend

There's been a lot of mending lately...

With breaks for nursing of course...

I like the lesson in mending, and there's plenty of opportunity because the pile of pants needing patches is never ending around here.

Project

I had a lot of fun making these patches for Joe's birthday tomorrow.  Initially Joe said he wanted a Star Wars birthday party and for me and Chris to dress up in costume and do battle with his guests...  ...  ...You can imagine my relief when he changed his mind and asked for a nature party.  We're giving these away as party favors...

The first fifteen that I made were really fun, but the last five I was like, "What was I thinking???"

Sorry all these pictures are sideways, I'm too lazy to change them...

The backs...

I hope the kids will "get" them, Joe seems to think they're neat.  The party is tomorrow!

Summer Weight Blankets

Danny likes to be covered up to his chin when he falls asleep and needed some sort of "summer weight" blanket to replace the extremely way too hot wool one he's been using.  I recently inherited a cotton gauze swaddling blanket which reminded me of this blanket tutorial and this fabric dyeing tutorial (from the same blog...  http://www.danamadeit.com/).  So I made some larger ones, one for each boy.  They picked their own colors, Danny picked...

Pink of course!  Matthew picked this light light blue...

And Joe picked "Royal Blue" mostly I think because it had the word "royal" in it.  Dyeing the cotton gauze was exciting and super simple.  I did all three colors in about an hour in my kitchen sink...

My usual "who gives a damn" technique...

Here's Danny trying his out for nap...

It works!

(See...  Right up to the chin.)

Now I can retire this guy for the season (several months late)...
